Ingrid’s road ends in Sewanee, TN

Ingrid’s last day of walking…for now. Knowing Ingrid was going home and I would have to be carrying the whole load I figured we should have hash browns for breakfast before going to get rid of some of the food. After breakfast we went to leave the cabin and there was a dog outside with no collar and not very well groomed. It looked as if he had ticks or something all over him.

We started off down the road again and this little guy followed. He followed, and frolicked, and followed some more. For a while he was cute to watch bound into the woods then pop up a little ways ahead.

Our home for the night

Pretty much immediately that day Ingrid’s knee started acting up and the going was slow with resting up a lot. After four miles our doggy friend was still bounding about us, but Ingrid was not. An older couple pulled up next to us and offered us a ride and she took it arranging to meet up at Shenanigans. This was my first taste of what was to come. Walking long miles alone.

This also is when the bounding pooch became very aggravating. He was fine on that back road but after four more miles I turned on to a fairly busy road and the dog did not stop running out into the road despite the cars. People were yelling out there windows at me to control my dog and flipping fingers. At one point the dog even ran straight in front of a car causing it to weave into the other lane at a screech. Luckily nothing happened but he was really pissing me off, especially with everything else going on that day.

A true companion

Around three I met up with Ingrid again and we had lunch. We were in the heart of Cox country so we called him up and told him we were at his favorite bar from home. He arranged for us to get in touch with his parents who had been waiting for us since the beginning of April and by four o’clock Cox’s dad, Don, was there with a car picking us up. Originally I was going to walk since I thought it was only a few miles, but when I found out it was twelve I decided against it and to make it up when I started up again. This was to be Ingrid’s last hoorah.

At the Cox’s they had a guest house for us to stay at so he dropped us off in there and let us relax before dinner was ready. We unpacked, laid about and relaxed in front of Funny Face before Don came back to summon us to eat.

The dinner was delicious. Cox’s mom, Bobbye, had cooked up some vegetables from their garden and made some chicken for me and veggie lasagna for Ingrid. We wrapped up the night chatting with them for a while then went back to our guest home and finished our movie before heading to bed.

On to the next day-->
