I geared up my pack for some more walking in the morning then checked out of the hotel around 8:30am. From there I went up road and crossed town where I would normally keep on for the library. It was a fairly uneventful day mostly walking down suburban roads.
It wasn’t until my last few miles that something of interest happened. I had been looking over maps and all of them said I could take Old Stagecoach Rd. north west to cut a corner and shorten my trip to the airport. When I got to the road it was roped off and a sign said No Trespassing. This sign I ignored.
I crossed over and walked down the road and about half way down it stopped being a road and turned into a sort of caddy sidewalk/road surrounded by the rolling hills of a vast country club golf course. I decided I’d past the point of no return and continued on.
No one was in sight for a little while, then I began seeing golfers safely enough away that it didn’t really matter, but soon enough I came across a gaggle of them. The first lady I met was very friendly to me. She gave me a slightly questioning look until I asked her how to get to the road. In a friendly manner she told me the way. The next person was an elderly man returning from a putt and joked with me about my pack saying if he had one he’d play all weekend. The last person I ran into was a young kid, about early twenties, who rolled up the twenty feet to me in his golf cart and asked me what the crap I was doing? I was reminded instantly of the kid in Buckhead and all that ran through my brain was “You can’t camp in Buckhead”. I politely responded that I’d taken a wrong turn and was trying to get back on the road. He seemed satisfied with this and rolled back to his buddies.
I eventually did find my way back on to the road and my short cut was successful. The last meeting I had on my way in to the airport was with two guys who rolled up next to me to offer a ride. We ended up chatting some and it turned out the guy driving worked for Harley Davidson which was right down the road. He offered me a free tour, but I told him I had to catch a flight home.
The flight home I made by only half an hour. After fifteen miles or so I showed up at 4pm for a 4:30 flight. I got everything in order and away I went.
