Mid-Country College Town Feel in Warrensburg, MO

I took quite a few pictures that morning in my little glade. The twisting roots and dried creek bed still intrigued me and it allowed me to get a slow start on my morning without feeling sluggish, which was nice. The morning was also nice and cool so I just sort of ambled down the road thinking of various things as I went.

Rommelton getting ready for another days march

After about six or seven miles I hit the little town of Knob Noster. Considering a few of the local fast food places an unsuitable place for breakfast I asked at the gas station for a nice home style breakfast and I was pointed down Main St. to the Home Town Café. Main St. was a quaint old fashioned type strip that clearly showed the town was based around the railroad that went through it.

Inside the café there was a big family having a brunch while a few others were doing morning coffee and eggs. The waitresses seemed very at ease and the feel seemed a bit like a college town to me. Anyway, I got my meal and coffee and mostly just wrote the whole while I was there.

The deceptive view

The rest of the day until Warrensburg was a long flat road with a nice cool breeze. I think there was one bend in it that seemed to wrench the road into an S for about half a mile then straighten out again into the horizon. I took a little break on this S but that was about it for the day until the next town.

Warrensburg actually was a college town for CMSU. I had been spotting it on my map for a while hoping to meet some folks there and hang out for a bit. When I actually arrived, though, I drifted through the streets and was naturally drawn to the library. That is where I stayed for an hour until they closed. When I was leaving the folks there found out what I was up to and they insisted I mention how friendly they were on this site. And they were very friendly. They told me some story about a dog and a trial case famous in that town, but I was completely lost and couldn’t follow it at all. Maybe they’ll put it in the guestbook as a hello.

Leaving town took about half an hour since I’d winded my way in there and it was a decent sized city. I had it in my head that I’d walk for a bit since it was only around 5 when I left, but after half an hour in the 100 plus degree weather and then turning back on the highway to see a long stretch of blacktop I decided maybe that’d be nicer to walk on in the cool morning air. Right next to the city limit sign I settled in for bed.
