Day 176 – Monday, June 28, 2004

A Return to the Trail Once again Outside Idaho Falls, ID

Arriving at the library fresh and ready to give a full account of the past week I was allotted an hour and a half. I got two days updated then I went to the store for some groceries before heading past the Interstate to a little diner called O’Brady’s. I was still very much on my eat-as-much-as-possible-while-it’s-available kick.

I had the Hungry Man meal of pancakes, steak and eggs, hash browns, and loads of coffee. I met some folks there having dinner with their grandson and his girlfriend. We had sporadic conversation in between bites, but in the end they ended up inviting me to stay on their lawn just outside of town. I’d let the day get away from me so I figured that’d be nice and I could start off across 67 miles of Snake River Plain fresh the next day. Walt and Hailey lived five miles out of town and not paying attention to what I was doing I walked right past it by half a mile before I realized it, but turned back to take advantage of their hospitality.

They let me use the bathroom and all before setting up. While I pitched the tent I chatted with Walt a while about things in general, my trip, and family stuff. It was quite nice, he also gave me grandfatherly advice on where I should get water and things like that. Once he left back to the house I retired to the tent, bookless, and went directly to sleep.

On to the next day-->
